Located on the Costa Brava, the Girona airport (also known as the Gerona airport) is a transport hub for tourism in north east Spain.
It is claimed that over 5.5 million visitors use this hub and is a major destination for the budget airline Ryanair. The airport is situated 12 kms towards the south of Girona city and is a 40 minute drive from the French border.
The airport is also linked to the famous Costa Brava resorts a few of which include Lloret de Mar, l'Estartit and Blanes. The airport has four hi tech multimedia terminals that have access to webcam, Email, chat, internet and card readers which help passengers check in online as well. Of the four, two are at the arrivals terminal and the other two in the boarding lounge.
The taxi service at the Girona airport is located outside the arrivals terminal. This is denoted by a blue and yellow sign and also the word Taxi painted in yellow on the road. A passenger can also use the free phone near the airport information desk to call a taxi if one isn't at the stand. Lots of the taxis are privately owned and do not have an official telephone number. The companies also have taxis for the disabled visitors.
There are no trains from the Girona airport, but one can always travel to the train station via bus or taxi from where they can continue with their journey. There are websites that give guided information about the train fares and routes which helps a traveller plan out his visit.
The Girona airport bus has transfers around the Costa Brava which includes Barcelona. The bus service is mainly managed by two companies, namely, Barcelona Bus and the Sarfa Bus.
The airport at Girona is well equipped with 3,800 parking lots and is distributed in the P1, P1A and P1B sections of the two buildings. There is an open car parking space and one is allowed to park in the open space only when all the other parking lots are full. One can park their cars either for a few hours or even for 24 hours without a fuss, as your cars will be well protected.
