Situated at the southwest area of the city of Malaga at about 8kms is the Malaga Airport.
In spite there being two terminal buildings, almost 99% of the flights are attended by the larger, newer building which is the 2nd terminal. With the new terminal constructed the airport should be efficient enough to handle almost 50% increase in passengers normally during peak times, along with other rail links and an additional runway.
The new terminal will have two gates 24 to 48 and will have 86 check-in desks and in an hour it will be able to handle 9,000 passengers.
Outside the arrivals on the ground floor is where the Malaga airport taxi rank is located. When you're coming to the airport the taxi will drop you at the upper level or the nearest area to the arrival terminal.
Taxis can accommodate only 4 passengers at a time, and that includes children as well. Taxi tariffs are printed on a poster and are displayed on a wall next to the double doors.
The train from the airport travels to Malaga City towards the direction of Fuengirola. The train station is situated opposite to the airport terminal. Once the new terminal is constructed, the terminal itself will house a station complete with platforms in the main terminal building of the airport.
Frequency of the trains is every 30 minutes and it starts as early as 6:49 am to 23:49 pm. Further information of departures and fares can be checked on the Renfe website.
There are two buses from the airport, the public transport service and the private shuttle buses.
The bus stand for both these buses is at the exit area of the main Terminal 2 arrival. Another bus stop for the bus C19 is located at the Terminal 1 arrivals.
The Malaga airport has almost 2,000 parking lots and is divided over three different areas. The three areas for parking are P1, P2 and the General Aviation Parking Area. There are 1,533 parking spaces in the P1 area making it the largest, while P2 has 968 spaces and the general aviation has only 47 parking lots.
