Tourists arriving at the Murcia airport have almost doubled during the past few years, and a new terminal has been built with prefabricated modules.
With this extension, the arrivals area of the airport increased by 1,100 sq meters. The new building now has five shops, office space for car hire companies along with two baggage reclaim carousels.
Since the airport hosts both military and civilian aircrafts, the airport is open to the civilian flights after 15:00 hours during weekdays and works full days on weekends. The security check area is almost 10 times its original size after it has been moved to the new terminal. The check- in desks has also doubled which gives a much bigger space for passengers.
Tourist will find ample car hire companies that serve tourists from the airport itself. However only 10 of these car hire companies have counters that are located inside the airport terminal. The taxi info centre at the airport is where one will find the telephone numbers along with links to the company from where one can hire a car.
Trains do not travel to the Alicante airport however one can avail of the local trains that run from Alicante to Murcia.
The website on the Spanish national trains gives a detailed report on the train services and is useful to the tourists.
Those who can't afford to use the car hire or a private vehicle as they probably find it a bit too expensive for their taste can always avail of the bus services. Getting a quote online and booking seat as per the requirements on a private bus shuttle is easy. These private shuttles stop at all the important hotels and resorts that are close to the airport.
A new parking area for cars, which is just the first phase, is being used for car parks for the Alicante airport.
It took several million euros to redo the completed car park. The entire car park area along with the unfinished area which can let 6,200 vehicles park at one time. This is so that the airports car park facility can handle the growing number of tourists that come to this popular destination.
The car park section has flyers that have the rates and parking terms that are printed on it. This is to make sure that rules are adhered to, and that the rate is known beforehand.
