Santander airport is situated only 5 kms away from the capital in the Camargo municipality.
The airport has recently undergone renovations and has been extended a bit. In the year 2008 the airport had almost 856,606 passengers and the flights that landed at the airport were 19,198. The highest number of people the airport witnessed was in 1995 where almost 180,000 tourists passed through this airport.
It still hasn't been able to accomplish this feat again in the recent times, although it is a busy airport. There are hot spots within the airport, for those who are busy on the move and need to access the internet all the time. The access points are at the restaurant, departures lobby, the air-bridge mobile and the boarding lounge. Telefonica de España is the operator that provides the Wi-Fi facility within the airport.
Right opposite the arrival terminal hall is where one can easily find the taxi rank. The flight arrivals are known to the taxi drivers, and therefore they are prepared when a flight arrives at the airport. This makes sure that their service is quick, as they already anticipate passengers. One can also telephone the radio taxi on their helpline number.
There are no train services from the Santander airport. There however are local trains that go along the coastline of Cantabrian towards the east and west.
Right in front of the terminal building is the bus stop. The airport buses ride towards the bus station at an interval of every 30 minutes. The service starts as early as 6:40 am and the last bus that leaves the airport is at 23:00 pm. Since Santander is only about 5 kms away from the airport, the ride is quick and costs are minimal.
There is an overnight bus service that connects Santander to the Madrid Airport terminal 4 for those who are boarding the early flights.
There are 785 parking spaces at the airport and 20 of them are reserved for disabled drivers. Parking charges are not very expensive. You can park your vehicle for a long time, if for 4 days a nominal charge is applied, on the 5th day onwards a minimum charge is applied.
