Also called the Tenerife Reina Sofia Airport, the Tenerife Airport South is the larger that the North Airport and caters to more passengers and flights.
Unlike the majority of the airports in Spain, this airport usually gets hectic during winters since travellers from North Europe visit this place to experience the warm Tenerife winters. The airport has accommodated over 8 million and 60,000 flights in 2009 making it the 7th busiest airport in the country of Spain.
Located next to the Tenerife Airport bus stop, the taxi service is located both outside the arrivals as well as the departures terminal. It is advisable to have a group of 4 or more hire a private airport transfer as normal taxis only carry 4 passengers which include children. Though most of the taxi service provided is honest, it is easy for a first timer to catch sight of a licensed taxi by the green light displayed on the roof of the car.
A few of the licensed taxis also bear the initials SP (Servicio Publico or Public Service) on the rear bumper.
There are no train services from the Tenerife South Airport but prices for car rental at Tenerife South airport are competitive.
Bus services from the airport connect to the North Tenerife Airport, Puerto de la Cruz, beaches situated to the south and to the capital of the island. The bus stop is located opposite the arrivals terminal.
The parking space at the Tenerife South Airport is quite big compared to the Tenerife North Airport and can accommodate over 1500 spaces for cars and buses at quite a cheap fee. Both long duration as well as short duration parking is located across the terminal building.
Though the airport has provision to drop passengers next to the public car park, parking here isn't permitted. The parking space can have room for around 1300 cars with the first half an hour being free. This includes a separate parking section for hired cars. The Airport parking is opposite the Tenerife Airport arrivals and the departures terminal building, next to the Tenerife Airport bus stop and Tenerife Airport taxi stand.
